Let me preface this story by saying none of this was not my idea. Yet I’m a sucker for love. And attention.
And I have a really hard time saying no. Which means if you ask me to sing at your wedding and I can clear my not-so-busy schedule, I’m there. Even if it means learning some new tunes and putting my own special spin on them.
Here’s a little ditty I whipped up for Linda & Tom’s nuptials in New York. The bride wanted something from the 1970s, a decade of music with which I was for the most part unfamiliar. (I was raised on show tunes, so for me the 1970s evokes Grease or Sweeney Todd.) Thankfully, I was able to find three 1970s-era pop songs with which I was familiar.
Turns out nothing says everlasting happiness like songs about deadbeat grooms, sex with hitchhikers, and death by frostbite.
By the way, Linda loved it (evidenced at 1:12 and 2:03 and 2:28). Her husband, however — who is a few years younger than she is — is a lovely guy but one who seemed as unfamiliar with the songs as I was.
